Creality SparkX i8 vs i7: Which One Should You Buy?
The Creality SparkX i8 vs i7 choice comes down to color work and timing. Both use the same 260 mm frame and the same top speed. The i8 adds a four-channel QuarTeks toolhead that swaps color in about a second and wastes far less filament. The i7 ships today. The i8 is still an Indiegogo pledge.
We built this from Creality's own specs, the i8 Indiegogo campaign and two independent reviews of pre-production i8 units. We have not printed on either machine. Read how we research printers.
Should you buy the SparkX i7 now or wait for the i8?
We may earn a commission from links on this page. We do not own or test the printers we write about.
Buy the i7 if you want a printer this month, print mostly in one color, or want TPU. Wait for the i8 only if four-color prints are the main reason you are buying, and you are fine paying up front for a machine that has not shipped yet.
Get the SparkX i7 if
- You want it delivered now, not after a crowdfunding campaign ends.
- Most of your prints are one color, or two to four colors now and then.
- You want to print TPU. Creality lists TPU for the i7 and only PLA and PETG for the i8 so far.
- You want a first printer with a known track record and a 14-day return window.
Wait for the SparkX i8 if
- You print in four colors most of the time and hate the purge waste.
- You can wait. Indiegogo's own estimate is November 2026 delivery.
- You accept crowdfunding risk: no store warranty until it ships, and only two reviews of beta units so far.
The i8 is sold through Indiegogo only, and Creality's store lists it as sold out. We do not link to it.
How much do the SparkX i7 and i8 cost?
| Version | What you get | Price now | Regular | Store |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Creality SparkX i7 | Printer only, single color. Add a CFS box later for multicolor. | $279 | $279 | Check at Creality |
| Creality SparkX i7 Color Combo | i7 plus the CFS Lite four-spool box with RFID and drying. | $349 | $399 | Check at Creality |
Prices checked several times a week on Creality's US store. The i8 is not in this table because it has no store price: Indiegogo backers pledged $289 (Super Early Bird, sold out) or $309 (Early Bird), and Creality gives $399 as the list price after the campaign. What is the difference between the SparkX i8 and i7?
The frame, bed, motion system and screen are close to identical. The i8 is an i7 with a new toolhead. The i7 has one filament path into its nozzle, so every color change means cutting, retracting, loading the next color and purging the old one. The i8's QuarTeks head keeps four filaments loaded in four separate hot channels that meet about 1.7 mm above the nozzle, so a swap takes about a second instead of a full unload and reload.
Creality also says the i8 hotend has 50% more cooling airflow and twice the heatsink area of the i7's, with a titanium heatbreak. That matters because four hot channels in one block is exactly where heat creep would show up.

i7 specs from Creality's SparkX i7 product page. i8 specs from Creality's QuarTeks page and the Indiegogo campaign, cross-checked against Makers101's spec comparison. The i8 is pre-release, so Creality can still change details before it ships.

Is the SparkX i8 really faster and less wasteful?
Yes for four-color prints, but not by the margin in Creality's marketing. Creality claims "0 filament waste" and multicolor printing over 500% faster than its older Hi Combo. Both reviewers who had pre-production units still got a prime tower, and the real gain depends heavily on the flush setting you pick in the slicer.
TheLayeredWorkshop printed the same four-color bust on the i8 at two flush settings and sliced it for the i7 Nano. Makers101 collected the numbers:
| Printer and flush setting | Print time | Purge and prime tower | Printed or estimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| SparkX i8, flush 1.0 (default) | 9 h 44 min | 245.6 g | Printed |
| SparkX i8, flush 0.15 | 5 h 10 min | 83.3 g | Printed |
| SparkX i7 Nano, flush 1.0 | about 18 h | not reported | Slicer estimate |
| SparkX i7 Nano, flush 0.15 | 15 h 36 min | 85.1 g | Slicer estimate |
Read that table carefully. At a low flush setting the waste is about the same on both machines. The time is not. The i8 finished in a third of the i7's estimated time, because it skips the cut, unload and reload on every layer. One reviewer timed a full color swap at about 8 seconds on the i8, including its small prime tower. If you print four colors every week, the time saving is the real reason to buy an i8. If you print four colors once a month, it is not worth the wait.
Caveat: the i7 figures are slicer estimates, not prints, and both i8 units were Creality-supplied samples on beta firmware.
Can the SparkX i7 print in multiple colors?
Yes, with a box next to it. The i7 Color Combo pairs it with the CFS Lite, a four-spool unit with RFID spool detection and desiccant drying that also handles TPU. The cheaper CFS Nano gives you four open slots but no TPU. Either way, the i7 still has one path into the nozzle, so it cuts and purges at every change. That is the trade you make for buying today and paying less for a single-color machine you can upgrade later.

If multicolor is your main use and you would rather not wait for the i8, compare it with the other machines on our best multicolor 3D printer list, including the larger Creality K2 Plus Combo.
When will the SparkX i8 ship?
Not yet. Creality's Indiegogo update says mass production is underway and it is working toward a possible first batch of shipments in October, with no firm date. The Indiegogo checkout estimate is November 2026. The campaign closes on 31 October 2026.
Two things to weigh before backing it. Creality's last Indiegogo product, the M1 and R1, missed its Q2 2026 shipping window. And a pledge is not a store order: the 14-day return window and store warranty that come with an i7 bought from Creality do not apply in the same way to a crowdfunding reward.
What do reviewers and owners report?
The i7 has a longer record. The i8 has two pre-production reviews and no owner reports yet.
- The i7 is well liked. Creality's store shows 4.85 from 143 reviews, and Tom's Hardware named it the best 3D printer of CES 2026.
- The i7's 0.4 mm nozzle clogs. This is the most consistent complaint from long-term i7 owners in Makers101's roundup, and the i8 sends four filament paths into that same nozzle size.
- Multicolor layer shifts on the i7. Control 3D reported them in February 2026. We found no confirmation that firmware has fixed them.
- The i8's color swap is fast. JJ Shankles timed it at about one second inside the head and printed a four-color model with 16.5 g of prime tower across 273 color changes.
- The i8's "zero waste" is not zero. TheLayeredWorkshop still got a prime tower, and called material use at default settings unimpressive.
- The i8 camera focus was weaker than the i7 Nano's on a pre-production unit. Creality may change it before shipping.

Our verdict
Buy the Creality SparkX i7 if you want a capable, quiet 260 mm printer now, print mostly in one color, or need TPU. Get the Color Combo if you already know you want four colors and do not want to wait.
Wait for the SparkX i8 only if four-color printing is the whole point, you can live without the machine until November or later, and you are comfortable with crowdfunding risk. Once it ships with real owner reports, it may well be the better buy.

Frequently asked questions
Can the Creality SparkX i7 print TPU?
Yes. Creality lists TPU of Shore 64D or harder for the i7, and the CFS Lite box supports it too. The CFS Nano does not. For the i8, Creality has only listed PLA and PETG so far.
Can the Creality SparkX i7 print PETG?
Yes. PETG is on Creality's official list for the i7, along with PLA, PLA-CF and TPU. The nozzle reaches 300 °C and the bed 100 °C.
How much will the Creality SparkX i8 cost?
On Indiegogo the Early Bird pledge is $309 for the printer and $428 with the CFS Lite. The $289 Super Early Bird sold out on 22 September. The list price after the campaign is $399.
When will the SparkX i8 ship?
Creality says mass production is underway and a first batch may ship in October, with no firm date. Indiegogo estimates November 2026 delivery. The campaign ends on 31 October 2026.
Should SparkX i7 owners upgrade to the i8?
Only if you print four colors often. The frame, speed and build volume are the same, and there is no trade-in or owner discount. Single-color and TPU users gain nothing.
